March "Forth" & Make EVERYDAY an Outside Day

OUTrageous Walk

Who:   All Treasure Valley (Idaho) students, parents and interested parties from our local communities are invited to participate in the very first OUTrageous Walk.

What:  The OUTrageous Walk is essentially an awareness walk to get kids (of all ages) outside to learn about the Boise River Green Belt area and what local groups are doing to improve this amazing local environmental riparian habitat and resource.  Essentially the Outrageous Walk is a relaxed six mile walk/run down the Boise River where participants will visit a variety of unique activities along the way.  Each station will have fun artifacts and activities that participants must get stamped into their Outside Passport before they can proceed on to the next station.

When:  The race will be held on Saturday, May 15th, 2010 starting at 8:30 AM at Barber Park and it will finish by 12 noon at Julia Davis Park.

Where:  The OUTrageous Walk will start at Barber Park and will finish at Julia Davis Park/Zoo Boise. This is approximately a six mile route.

Stations  There will be five different stops along the route.  Each station will highlight different outdoor activities and environmental groups, i.e.  running, biking, rock climbing, bird watching, kayaking, and orienteering.

Why:  We wanted to host an event that would get people of all ages and abilities, up and out into our local environment, learning and enjoying all that it has to offer.  We live in a technology driven society and kids are becoming more and more disconnected from nature and they often don’t realize how it is impacting their lives and all the wonderful opportunities that they are missing out on. The OUTrageous Walk is a fun way to get students to learn about what local groups are doing in the community and how they are improving our local environments. Another goal of this fun walk is to show students and adults what simple things they can do to make a difference.  Ultimately everyday is an Outside Day and ultimately we want to encourage kids of all ages to get outdoors to enjoy nature and learn its countless lessons.
